I think that UI/UX is very important. It's what makes a website feel good to use, and it's the first thing that users will experience when they visit your site. I would definitely spend the money on it. There are lots of free resources out there that you can use to make your own site look nice, but if people are going to be paying attention to your site, you might as well put some effort into making sure it looks good!
