So I'm at a point in my college life where I need to choose whether I want to pursue a masters in Dietetics or Wellness Coaching. I was originally going for Wellness Coaching but I got nervous about job prospects/stability. I just started my nutrition minor this semester and I love nutrition. However, based on some of the posts I have read here, the RD job seems pretty bleak. Not enough pay, especially for a master's, and also being stuck in a hospital which is exactly what I don't want. I consulted with my nutrition instructor at my school (who is also a RD) and she painted this broad picture like there are so many different pathways that I could choose if I were to become an RD. I'm just trying to get a more realistic picture of what it's truly like.
What I enjoy/want to do: Helping people who are generally well to change their diets and lifestyles to become healthier, without the limitations of scope of practice from not being an RD. https://www.formingherwellness.com
What I don't want to do: Be stuck in a hospital helping sick people and being stuck with a crappy work schedule.
Is there any hope for me to do a more Wellness Coaching-oriented job with a degree in Dietetics, or should I just stick to going for a master's in Wellness Coaching despite the fact that I will be limited on the nutritional advice that I would be able to give clients due to scope of practice?
I appreciate any insight you guys can give. I hope I made myself clear in my questions. If not, I'm happy to clarify!
